Dentures are artificial replacements for your natural teeth. If an accident, dental decay or gum disease has left you with some healthy teeth or none at all, your dentist might suggest dentures as one option to replace your missing teeth.
There are various types of dentures: complete, immediate, partial and implant-supported. For the various types of dentures the dentist/denturist the procedure is similar. The initial appointment consists of impressions or "moulds" of the teeth and fabrication of the wax-up. Next, the wax-up is tried into the mouth and modifications of the fit, teeth colour and size can be modified. The final appointment consists of the delivery of the denture to the patient.
Complete dentures are what we most often refer to as "a plate or false teeth." They are also called “full dentures” and are used when all your natural teeth are missing. Complete dentures come in and out of your mouth as needed and they are held in place by suction. Complete dentures can also be supported by dental implants that are integrated into the jawbone. They may cause soreness at first and take some time to adjust.
Immediate dentures are fabricated prior to tooth removal. Our denturist takes measurements and makes models of your jaws during your first visit. When your teeth are extracted by Dr. Haas, he can then immediately insert the immediate dentures. The benefit of immediate dentures is that you are not without teeth during the healing period, which may take up to 6 months. During the healing period, your bones and gums can shrink and your immediate dentures may need to be relined by our denturist for a proper fit.
Partial dentures are also called “removable partial
denture” or “partials." These dentures are used when just
one or a few teeth are missing. Partial dentures are made
up of one or more artificial teeth held in place by clasps
that fit onto nearby natural teeth. You can take the partial
denture out yourself for cleaning and at night.
