Dental Implants

At Elliot Lake Dental Centre we can restore your smile with dental implants that look and feel like your own natural teeth. Dental implants replace natural teeth by mimicking nature.

The first step in dental implant placement is placing titanium implant into the jaw bone. At this appointment you will have dental freezing to make you completely comfortable. As well, you may choose the option of oral sedation if your are nervous. This titanium dental implant takes between 2-6 months to attach and embed in the jawbone.

The second step of dental implant placement occurs after 2-6 months. At this point the crown portion of the dental implant can be affixed to the titanium post. The crown portion of the dental implant is the part that you see above the gumline, looks just a natural tooth and is made of ceramic or porcelain. At this point you may function on the dental implant just as your natural teeth.

Dental Implants can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or to support a denture.

Single or Multiple Dental Implants

Missing teeth and spaces within the bite should be restored. Each and every gap in your tooth placement may potentially pose problems to your long term dental health. Teeth adjacent to the missing tooth may drift into the space while opposing teeth to the space may erupt down into the gap. At times with drifting and hypereruption you may end up losing those teeth as well. Dental implants are the gold standard in tooth replacement and are an excellent solution. One or more titanium dental implants, which serve as artificial roots, are placed within space to replace the missing tooth/teeth With the implants in place further bone loss is prevented and you now have a natural looking and functional smile.

Dental Implant Supported Dentures

Missing all your teeth can have a terrible impact on quality of life. In many cases, people missing all their teeth often replace them with dentures, which rely on bone and gum support. While dentures may be an acceptable solution for some, for others the denture(s) does not fit well leading to reduction in the enjoyment of eating due to; movement of the denture, denture sores and infections occuring underneath the denture.  With an implant supported denture this challenge of enjoying your food can be greatly diminished.  You will once again enjoy the freedom of a full, secure and comfortable smile.
